You can help cultivate a pipeline of workforce talent, guide youth toward fulfilling in-demand careers and help prepare the workers your company will need in the future. Below are 14 ways you can get involved with Nevada’s workforce. Click any item to get started.

START AN INTERNSHIP PROGRAM 
DESCRIPTION
A short-term, organized, work-based learning experience, empowering youth through guidance and constructive feedback
TIME COMMITMENT
Company chooses how many to host – typically 20-80 hours
DESCRIPTION
Businesses can work directly with OWINN to develop a robust talent pipeline through Registered Apprenticeships (RA) or youth apprenticeships, which are paid on-the-job training that leads to a nationally recognized credential.
TIME COMMITMENT
Varies; RA programs approved by State Apprenticeship Council, which meets quarterly
NOTES
Company makes final selection on who to hire and put through program; RA is a formal process
MENTORING – NV PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP
DESCRIPTION
The NV Promise Scholarship aims to make college education more accessible and affordable. Serving as a mentor can make a meaningful difference in a young person’s life.
Community colleges support training & engagement opportunities
TIME COMMITMENT
3-5 hours for an academic period
PROVIDE CLASSROOM RESOURCES

DESCRIPTION
Support area schools' career readiness programs by offering insight on your industry or job, conducting mock interviews, participating in classroom activities and more.

INDUSTRY/BUSINESS TOURS
DESCRIPTION
Businesses provide exposure for youth and engage in industry-related or day-to-day activities, learning from those in the career field.
Typically 10 or more students

EVENT/CAREER FAIR EXHIBITOR
DESCRIPTION
These events allow for young adults to become exposed and to engage in new fields (available in large and small settings); companies can also recruit students during these events.

JOB SHADOW
DESCRIPTION
Student “shadows” one or more employees to learn what that person does on a daily basis and other business operations.

Strategic Engagement Activity

LEAP EMPLOYER REVIEW SESSIONS
DESCRIPTION
Led by GOED, Learn and Earn Advanced-career Pathway (LEAP) creates integrated, standardized, skill-based pathways to ensure workers have skills for New NV economy. Employers review & evaluate content to ensure alignment with hiring needs.
Completed for key industries identified
TIME COMMITMENT
Annually; 2-6 hours a year. Each session lasting 2 hours. 2-3 sessions a year.
SERVE AS AN INDUSTRY SECTOR COUNCIL MEMBER
DESCRIPTION
Provide the state recommendations on in-demand occupations, skills, and credentials necessary to succeed in the workforce. Recommendations inform education and workforce funding priorities.
Appointment based on openings in targeted industries
TIME COMMITMENT
Meets twice a year for approximately 1.5 hours
SERVE ON STATEWIDE CTE PROGRAM STANDARDS AND CURRICULAR FRAMEWORK DEVELOPMENT
DESCRIPTION
Provide industry input on the curricula used in the classroom to prepare thousands of students for post-secondary opportunities and careers.

Various committees; each committee meets once per year for approximately 4 hours
SERVE ON STATEWIDE CTE GRANTS REVIEW COMMITTEES
DESCRIPTION
Provide industry input and expertise on Career and Technical Education (CTE) program grants review: state and federal allocation and competitive grants.
Membership solicitation are based on CTE Programs of Study
TIME COMMITMENT
Various committees; each committee meets once per year for approximately 4 hours
SERVE AS A JOINT TECHNICAL SKILL ADVISORY MEMBER – SCHOOL DISTRICT
DESCRIPTION
Provide information on current business trends, technological demands and realistic job requirements to CTE administrators and teachers.
Membership solicitation is based on CTE Programs of Study and career cluster areas.
TIME COMMITMENT
Meets 3-4 times a year for approximately 2 hours
SERVE AS A JUDGE OR MENTOR FOR CAREER & TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGs (CTSOs)
DESCRIPTION
CTSOs include: DECA, FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, HOSA, and Skills USA
Students will present case study solutions, business plans or projects to you for evaluation.
